The compassion and care I received after an accident and subsequent operation, aged four, inspired me to become a doctor. My personal experience made me realise that there is no greater kindness than easing pain and saving lives.
Despite the pressure of working in busy, NHS hospitals, I enjoyed all aspects of my work. Whilst my career was going well; my health was deteriorating. I suffered debilitating migraines as a result of a head injury in my teens. I was fortunate to have access to top university hospitals and leading specialists in the UK, but no one could find a way to cure my symptoms’
Determined to find solutions, I looked beyond conventional medicine. Attending global conferences, seeking out experts and keeping up to date with the latest research, I studied many different treatment modalities including Nutrition, Acupuncture, Hyperbaric Medicine, and Integrative and Functional Medicine.
Slowly and miraculously, I started to see improvements in my health. The migraines disappeared and my life returned to normal.
It became clear to me that while conventional medicine remains vital for millions of people throughout the world, patients with chronic problems often have multiple causes for their illness and require a more personalised and holistic approach. Filled with passion to use my experience and knowledge to help people with chronic health struggles, I set up an integrative health clinic.
In 2017 I met Jacques, who attended my clinic, hoping to find answers to the complex, medical problems that had plagued him for many years. A successful commercial lawyer, businessman and philanthropist, Jacques’ life changed dramatically after a motorbike accident left him with injuries to his brain and spine. Following the accident, he suffered a series of significant medical events, including encephalitis. He became progressively unwell. Jacques had exhausted conventional and complementary treatments by the time he came to see me. Despite being told by doctors across the globe that there was nothing conventional medicine could do, he is now on the road to recovery, aided by a multitude of treatments with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at the helm.
Working together for two years on his journey back to health, Jacques and I discovered that we shared the same values and a passion to help others. After several discussions about how to combine our experiences, NUMA was born!
We understand the devastating impact that chronic illness has on people’s lives. We know how important it is to follow the best science but we also know that every patient faces a unique set of problems and challenges. We work with our patients, to understand their individual needs and to find personalised solutions, that will enable them to live the life they deserve. We know that, in those moments where people feel at their lowest, they need the assurance of the highest standards of professionalism and expertise, combined with compassion, kindness and understanding.
We feel honoured to play a part in your journey back to health and happiness.
